Shayan & Keith – King Plow Arts Center in Atlanta

Shayan & Keith are the type of couple who knew exactly what they wanted for their wedding – from the food to the music to the flowers – they had vision! And as we all know, with a great vision for a wedding you need a great team of vendors to bring it all together! Enter one of our favorite planners: Laura Godfrey from Godfrey Wedding Design. Laura, Shayan & I met several times to go over all of the details for the decor: the style of each vase (curvy, yet organic, but not matchy-matchy), the specific flowers (just a few types – all big & beautiful) & the flow of the space (room flipped and entire reception put together in 1 hour!); all designed to soften & enhance the dramatic & urban King Plow space. Shayan wanted the floral decor to be all whites & golds, with tons of candlelight & sparkle – warm, welcoming &  perfect for a seated dinner.

I am especially pleased that we were able to get her big & beautiful peonies for her day – I had warned her that in November this can be a tall order, but not only were we able to fill it, our wholesaler sent some extras to make sure we had them everywhere! Thanks to Chris Isham Photography for sending us these stunning images of the day. PS – check out the fantastic ombre cake made by a friend of the family!

Amanda + Steve – featured on Green Wedding Shoes!

Quick story – Amanda came to our office for a consultation on a Wednesday morning, and we genuinely clicked – she came prepared with a PowerPoint show of ideas & inspiration, we talked fabric & sewing, all around good time. I rarely watch TV on the weekends, so the odds of me catching 20 minutes of HGTV on a Sunday in July are really low… and somehow, the following Sunday afternoon, I had free time while my man was mowing the lawn & the lil girl was asleep and ended up with “Curb Appeal” – the one that featured a neighborhood in Atlanta. The one with Amanda & her house getting a surprise yard facelift. I couldn’t believe it, but it was her, no doubt. When I finished up her proposal the next week & emailed it, I told her that I’d seen her ON TV! and how awesome was that! she was very gracious, in true character (and explained that it wasn’t really a surprise when the camera crew & host ‘showed up’ at her door, but rather her skilled acting, hee hee).

Anyway, we did get to do Amanda & Steve’s wedding at the Cotton Warehouse, beautifully photographed by W.Scott Chester Photography. And now Amanda’s even MORE famous – Green Wedding Shoes has featured her wedding!

Really loved working with Heather Lakes of Ashley Baber Weddings for the coordinating that day, too – if you think you don’t need a planner, pleasepleaseplease think again about the money & headaches & time that such an experienced wedding professional can save you (and your other vendors!).

Hot pink hydrangea really take off in early/mid-summer – these were from a Memorial Day weekend wedding last year. Thanks to Jason Thrasher for the close-up picture!

Lauren & Mike – Founder’s Garden, Athens, GA

I’m not really from anywhere. Really. I was born in California, lived outside of Denver, CO for 8 years, then moved to Peachtree City, GA, where nearly everyone in my graduating class moved into ‘The Bubble’ during their school years. Only about 2 dozen people even attended K-12 there, and they probably all moved into PTC with their families before they turned 5. It doesn’t bother me much – I think it kept me from feeling tied down or identifying with a particular region, which has its benefits when making friends in college & later.

Now that I’ve lived in the Athens area longer than anywhere else in my life, however, I get to have some history with places nearby, and long-time friends & acquaintances that make it feel more like a small town. If you want to remind yourself of the lack of anonymity in Athens, go to the Taco Stand on the weekend – don’t brush your teeth if you want to be SURE to bump into someone you know.:-)

Next week I’m celebrating my 10th wedding anniversary with my man. (He’s requested internet anonymity. haha.) We got married at the Founder’s Garden back when it was probably the cheapest venue in Athens, and we lucked out with the most beautiful weather I can remember.EVER. So Lauren & Mike’s wedding there this past spring has special affection for me, as do all the weddings I get to do at the Founder’s Garden. Lauren’s choice of dark hydrangea & purple ranunculus is also one of my favorites, and these blog  entries – (part 1 and part 2) by Once Like a Spark Photography sincerely show how choices can make a bride & groom comfortable & reflect who they are on their wedding day.

Here’s to Lauren & Mike – may we all be so true to ourselves on our wedding day & after.

StyleMePretty.com – Out of Africa photo shoot

Our previous post about the lovely photo shoot that Aharon Hill Photography worked on with our flowers has been picked up by StyleMePretty.com!

I really think my favorite part was the floral headpiece for the bride – I wish I could make more of those. We chose ivory phlox, peach stock & garden roses, pale orange hypericum berries & light pink peonies, with silvery green seeded eucalyptus berries & feathery grasses to complement the neutral khaki, canvas, white oxford (ah! Robert Redford!) burlap & leather accessories.
